Client: The client is a luxury rug making SME. It produces custom carpets for its customers across The North Americas and Europe. It employs over 150 people in Kathmandu.
The client is looking to transition its ‘old school’ approach of production and aspires a change in the mindset of its key people. However given the volatility of the market and to conduct ‘business as usual’, the client is seeking short term improvements over an extended period of time.
First Avocado was contracted for over period of 4+ years, across 5 intervention cycles – each varying between 2 to 4 months.
The focuses was on process redesign and restructuring at the management layer. It helped in minimizing waste and re-designing the inventory management workflow.
Secondly, First Avocado helped in the digital transformation through a software implementation. It maps the data for decision making and insight. This led to a data driven mindset in the organization with cockpit view for identifying bottlenecks and decision making.
Additionally, Performance Management and empowering of supervisors via monitoring tools to strengthen the feedback process was institutionalized. This is currently work in progress.
First AvocaDO also designed coaching sessions that involved management executives, employee union and industrial staff. The change process was carefully crafted to prevent disruption in productivity and morale.
First Avocado intends to bring in visual aid to the production floor – that is mapped to the overall production workflow including real-time data inputs from the ground. This is planned for the next cycle.
